Water Dump Irrigation is Better Than Irrigation Tower

Sorry if this is old news, the search function isn't working for me.

So I just did a little experiment with irrigation techniques. The Irrigation Tower will irrigate 10 tiles away from itself, requires almost constant attention, and a lot of water. Rivers irrigate like 16 or 17 tiles away just by existing. So here was my thought, can I blow a single tile with dynamite, construct a water dump to fill it, irrigating the same distance as a river, and leave it alone? Yes, I can. The water does eventually evaporate away, but it takes days. This seems to be a better method of irrigating land.

I did this too. And can concur with OP about the fact that it makes the irrigation tower redundant.

 

Edit: even before dynamite, used Levees to contain a block of water.

ohhh, that idea of the Levees is really good!!! 
As on early game you usually don't have Dynamite xD

Yes this actually appeared once as a topic.

Still a nice reminder because somehow I forgot.

Probbably because I don't use water dumps and irrigation towers at all.

This was fixed, but the update today reverted to a previous version of the irrigation tower lasting only 24 hrs on a full tank (i.e.48 water) as opposed to the revised 240 hrs (10 days).
